- Learn and practice writing friendly and business letters
- Create 5-point outlines
- Write a 5-paragraph paper using pre-writing, drafting, and editing
- Study and practice narrative and expository writing
- Learn about and practice writing several styles of poetry
Literature
The students will
- Read 5-8 classic novels as a class (most of the selections will complement what they are learning in history)
- Learn to recognize literary elements such as theme, mood, point of view, imagery, etc.
- Be trained to evaluate texts from a Biblical world-view
- Independently read and report on 6 pre-approved books

Special Events
5th—6th grade students will have the opportunity to participate in the following special events/field trips:
Tucson Symphony Orchestra… Throughout the school year, the students will learn about the musical instruments that make up an orchestra. As a culminating activity, the children will attend a symphony performance downtown.
Medieval Festival… The students and parents are invited to participate in a medieval style feast at school as a culmination of the year’s history studies.
ASARCO Mine Tour… The students investigate the history and operations of an open pit mine.
Sabino Canyon… The students participate in “Creek Critters” program which studies water quality and analyzes data collected.
Federal Court House… The class will visit a judge’s courtroom and witness people becoming citizens of the U.S.

The students will
Spend each morning discussing and considering personal application of the Bible
Commit to memory a monthly Bible passage
Be given the opportunity for sharing of personal needs and concerns
Spend time daily in prayer
Chapels
The students will
Join grades K-6th in a weekly chapel time for worship and singing.
Be challenged by speakers to consider their own personal expression of the challenges found in the Bible to live out their faith
Bible Class

Study stories and events from the books of Chronicles through Malachi
Memorize the books of the Bible and the disciple’s prayer
